Branch 272 Heads to Washington: Standing Up for Our Carriers with HR 70

Earlier this month, our executive officers from NALC Branch 272 traveled to Washington, D.C. to lobby members of Congress in support of H.R. 70 — a critical resolution bill defending the rights and benefits of letter carriers across the country.

With 288 bipartisan sponsors already signed on, H.R. 70 is just 10 cosponsors away from a House majority. The resolution reaffirms Congress’s long-standing commitment to keeping the U.S. Postal Service public and opposes any attempt to privatize or erode our service and benefits.

Our branch spoke directly with congressional staffers about the urgency of this resolution, especially in light of recent budget reconciliation provisions that threaten to undermine carrier retirement benefits. These proposals, if passed, could weaken the hard-earned security that postal workers have contributed to throughout their careers.

Our message was clear: Letter carriers are essential to the fabric of every community, and any attack on our benefits is an attack on the American people who rely on us. We urged lawmakers to take a firm stand by cosponsoring and supporting H.R. 70.

📢 What You Can Do:

  • Contact your representative and ask them to support H.R. 70 if they haven’t already.

  • Stay informed by following updates on nalc.org.

  • Join upcoming rallies, meetings, or local legislative efforts to help push this across the finish line.

Branch 272 is proud to have taken action—and we won’t stop until Congress shows its full support for the people who keep the mail moving every single day.
